Funding green light for Bevis Marks Synagogue
5th May 2017
We’re pleased to announce HLF funding success for Bevis Marks, the oldest synagogue still in use in the United Kingdom.
Since 1701, this Grade 1 listed building has been a significant part of London’s historic landscape. The community’s collection, intangible Sephardi heritage and archive provide a unique continuous record of Jewish life in Britain.
Barker Langham worked with the S&P Sephardi Community to submit a plan to the HLF that would create equal access to all to the site, its story and collection, ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the building as a heritage attraction, and safeguard the collections and story of the community.
HLF has earmarked £3 million for the delivery of the project and we're now working to refine these plans for the final submission expected for July 2018.
