Transnet is South Africa's national port, pipeline and rail company, and holds a significant collection of historic locomotives. Recognising the need to conserve and home these locomotives, Transnet commissioned a Concept and Feasibility Study to explore the potential of a new world-class railway museum.

Working with partners Aecom, Barker Langham developed the outline interpretive and visitor experience plan, identifying a range of possible collections for inclusion in this new museum. This was based on research undertaken both in the UK and South Africa, and a best practice comparator review.

Our final study and recommendations were presented to Transnet in South Africa and the project is currently under review for further development.
